Funday Friday: The Fondling Fabric One

I finally got inspired with a simple plan to make a quick quilt for my bed. My old quilt, sadly, lay too long right beside a window and the fabric eventually got cooked to death. It shredded. So now I need a new quilt for the winter.

I've been collecting patterns such as the Michigan Row by Row Experience as I've gotten to do a little wandering this summer, and the My Happy Place Row-along, as well as pinning some fun-looking ideas on Pinterest. But I just need something simple and quick for now and then this winter, when I hope to have more sewing time, I'll work on the more complicated row-alongs.

So here's what I came up with:
I am an old-fashioned girl without computer stuff with which to design quilts.                                      Good old graph paper and colored pencils for me.

The middle squares (cut at 6.5") are of my favorite scraps and activities and memories, so I'm calling this quilt "A Few of My Favorite Things."

And here are a few of those favorites:

Playing in the fabric and coming up with a plan and starting on it fit right in with the "Get Out of Depression" step that talks about putting beauty and creativity in my day. (I will be linking this project up at Elm Street Quilt's One Monthly Goal.)

Another way I did that was through my morning walk (combining the exercise step and beauty step).

Monday I hope to begin digging deeper into those previously posted Steps Out of Depression. Join me then and may your day be full of beauty and joy.

  1. Isn't it wonderful what fabric can do for us? I am lucky to have 2 stores within walking distance to be able to pet and fondle fabric, and of course a stash. Thanks for linking up with me today.

    1. Within walking distance would definitely be dangerous for me. Ha!
