Hostage Lands by Douglas Bond

Hostage Lands

An active young man, bored in his Latin class, disgusted by and disgusting to his Latin teacher, nearly a stranger to his father, discovers some Latin writings in the ruins of Hadrian's wall in Scotland. With his teacher's help, he translates what turns out to be an exciting story of Roman soldiers stationed on the wall and the tenuous relationship they have with the native peoples. Treachery, nobility, fighting, cultural clashing and uniting, growing in understanding as well as being introduced to the God of peace all make this a gripping tale well-told.

I have enjoyed several of Douglas Bond's YA books in the past and will continue to read more as our homeschooling history read-alouds follow his timeline of books. They are well-written, exciting, and wholesome.
