Sewing of the Not So Fun Kind

My daughter is getting married in less than two weeks. (AAAAAGGGGGHHHH! Now and then the panic strikes, but mostly it's been pretty calm preparation.) And I think we're pretty on-track right now. Since she's getting married outdoors in Northern Michigan, USA, in late September, we're going to be putting up a tent to keep the weather at bay. So that will make the last couple of days busy at setting up. But it's a pretty casual affair, so we're not being too stressed.

She found a lovely dress at a thrift store (Hey, why not?! We're into saving money and repurposing and it will probably only be used once anyhow), but it needed some alteration. That's fallen to me since money it pretty tight for this wedding.

Since she's of a larger build, I had to remove all the little buttons in back, replace them with buttonholes, and put an insert in over which we'll tighten the lacing that's going through the buttonholes.

It's quite a pretty dress with lots of beading embroidery, so I've been nervous about messing with it.

But it seems to have turned out quite well. One last fitting to put the velcro in that will hold the insert in place will happen within a day or two and then we're off to the races!

Between this activity and starting back up with homeschooling my 10th grader, I haven't had much time to work on other goals, but that's ok. This is the priority right now.
